So we found that HBOMax has New Who and with our electrical Time-of-Use rates dictated turn off all the things we can between 4-9pm, we've decided to turn that into Binge All The Things, rather than I dunno, play a board game, or clean the house, or, ya know God forbid, TALK TO EACH OTHER. (Although, as DH will attest, Junior and I drive him bonkers with our pause-and-discuss method of TV watching. SO.)
ANYWAY - I will work on posting a rewatch - first time watch- of New Who soonish. (Very ish). (Also I've finally seen Thirteen. YAY! I really like her!)
But that is not today.
Today I present 1980's-1990's music videos I watched too much and thought too much about.
First Up R.E.M, Losing My Religion
What's not to love about this vid? It's got everything.
Random religious iconography, living paintings, and references to Latin American magical realism*. It's the early 90s so we still of have plenty of 80s conventions on display here. Stand and pose dramatically. Quick cuts and flashes of WTFery. And also dancing method: rhythmic flailing.
10/10
*AKA A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings
New Order True Faith
What is there to say about this one? It's Peak 1980s. Everyone else can go home.
Choreographers using their powers for evil. Costumers on copious amounts of drugs. Story what story. What's happening here, oh right no one cares. Bonus points for accessibility before it was cool, in the form of BSL (British Sign Language).
50/10
Devo - Whip it
Not to be basic, but we have to pay homage to the originators of 1980s WTFery.
There's almost a story, but it doesn't make sense. Everything is out of context and to be honest you don't really want to know. (And yes the hats.)
