Not as finished as I'd like but with every edit it kept growing. Writing without a plan has been my biggest downfall of late. So I'm posting this in drabble form (mainly for the sake of posting), and giving myself time to mull before I just jump in.

Time Lord Fairy Tales

He'd told her once about Time Lord fairy tales, spinning tales of their bogeyman, the toclafane, and other characters that made her laugh. But the one she remembered most was about hearts. Humans, it said, and other single-hearted beings were always found in pairs because hearts could not bear to be alone. Time Lords were naturally solitary as evidenced by having two hearts to keep each other company.
"But what about you?" She'd teased, "you don't do alone."
"Well," he'd hedged, "always was a rubbish Time Lord."
She'd laughed then. She wasn't laughing anymore. She hoped his hearts were happy.
