NotD: I think the biggest thing that bugged me about this episode was that the Doctor made a big deal about how he couldn't go into his own timestream because that would destroy the universe or something... and then he goes into his own timestream to save Clara and nothing happens. Not even "omg, everything's starting to fall apart, let me pull this out of my butt and fix it all".
DotD: I've always intended to post my full analysis of this episode - it's about 75% written, but I'll probably never post it. I loved the episode when it first came out - watched it every day for a month, even, so I know it very well - but now, the thought of it almost makes me physically ill. I'm actually glad that Eight turned out to not be the Time War Doctor, because if he had been, he'd have been subjected to this crap. As it is, he got a beautiful regeneration short ep and we can keep all of our wonderful memories of him intact.
I like the idea that there's this incarnation that the future ones wanted to forget because he committed such atrocities during the Time War and ended it with genociding half the universe... but hate the fact that he was such a gentle soul during the episode and turned out (in later episodes) to not have committed any atrocities during the war at all; he didn't even actually fight in the war. But of course, that's not this episode.
I hate that the episode was basically a love song to Eleven rather than a celebration of Doctor Who. I hate that the beyond-comprehension Last Great Time War with its cosmic horrors was reduced to simply soldiers with guns and Daleks with lasers. I hate that Ten was entirely comic relief and didn't do anything right. So many more things, but I'll end it here.
