Not that I'm complaining, really. It's kinda nice to just watch and not really care. I'm as of today caught up to the angels eps. I just didn't want to be bothered with the cliffhanger. I could have cheerfully waited for another week but my son starting bouncing for new eps nownownow.
But anyway. Eleven.
Eleven is okay. But, then again, I think Six is okay. And Six stole "my" Doctor away so... yeah, ya know.
I even think the "cracks" arch is pretty interesting. (Provided the Moff doesn't do something unforgivable.)
And I'm glad, really glad that my son is excited to see new eps again. Even if I can't share the enthusiasm. It's been sorely lacking in him the last two seasons.
I watched him get more and more frowny as each ep developed and his show stopped being fun. He never asks to watch S3 eps (though part of this is because of the horrifically inappropriate promos on autoplay before the menu. Torchwood at least makes sense but MI5? Jekyll!??? Seriously people!? Because everyone wants images of terrified children and a blood-soaked man wielding a butcher knife shown to their violence-sensitive 8-year-old. **headdesk** Kinda takes the joy out of things when he has to leave the room for several minutes each time he puts a disk in). But aside from that, I don't think the angst level makes the series enjoyable to him.
S4 is another thing. He actually only saw pieces of the eps at the first run. At first he was excited to get the DVDs. But most of the eps make him cry. (Emo, man-pain tears, natch. He is 10 now.;) ) And we've only seen the first half of the series.
Thank God for Sarah Jane. He got to keep the verse and pitch the angst. So when I say this is a change, it really is. With all the BS in his life the last couple of years he so doesn't need more angst. This is why I hooked him on the show in the first place, waaaay back in S1.
And he is a proper fanboy. I needed to purge the argh, angst after the specials so we had a (many day) marathon of classic Who starting with the Four-Romana era. He couldn't get enough.
So Eleven - you keep doing what you're doing. I'm not that into you, with your smugness, freaky hands, and your shoutyness (and they said Ten got pissy easily? Ha.). But for my son's sake you are okay in my book.
Now just do one thing for me: go find Six and let's see which one of you can out-shout the other.
Come on, it would be awesome.
