Five Unpopular Fandom Opinions Meme - Doctor Who

Okay I've been pretty quiet here and I've feeling stressed out bored and so I thought: I know, let's ignite a fandom war on my LJ*. :p

1) Journey's End is a sucktastic bit of crack!fic. It turns DW into soapsforboys. And I read comic books. I know what I'm talking about. :D Now for me to say this takes a lot. I love all DW with BLIND devotion. Messianic/Athestic/gay agenda (and whatever else the fanboys scream about) New Who? Eh, no worries. OldSkool wobbly sets, cheesy monsters and gravel pits? Bring 'em on! The Valyard? Sure why not? The Watcher? Random, but no problem. Seven? I wanna give him squishy hugs. Six? *gulp* Okay. I learned to love him even though he showed up acting batshit crazy and took away MY DOCTOR. *sob* So this is me: blind devotee no more. :(

2) Rose totally told Ten to jump through that window and save Madame Du Pompadour. And Rose wasn't jealous of her either. To suggest that she was either totally defies her characterization.

3) Oldskool Master (Ainly/Delgato/that guy in the Eight movie) was meh. Too much mustache twirling, bwahahaha, look at me I'm eeeevil! stuff. (I will admit I've not seen any Doc Three since I was around thirteen and my preteen self found that era meh in general.) OTOH, Simm-Master is IwanttohavehisevilTimebabies awesome. I would rethink the Eleven era if I knew for certain he was coming back as a regular.

4) Enough with the Daleks and Cybers already. Can we just move on now, y/y? (We could have the Yeti. :P)

5) I think I love Eight. *cringes* After the movie aired I was ready to throw stuff at the TV. Seven killed by a street gang? Bwah? Doctor is half-human? **jaw drops in disbelief** Kisses girls?! **recoils in OldSkool!fan horror** DW in California? **faints** I categorically declared it DW writen by someone who just didn't get Who and reached for the brain bleach.

But then I got DSL. (DSL has a lot to answer for.) I watched the web story of Shada with Eight & Romana. And I loved it. Then I listened to some clips of the Eight audios. And I loved those. So then I re-watched the movie. o_O It's not as dire as remembered. Well. Okay it is. The master/eye of harmony/half-human(lalala) is just bad. Buuuut, the kissing girls thing - I can deal with now. And Eight is squishy adorable. Now I want to unlock a DVD so I can get the movie. And fast forward a lot. XD

*No not really. My f-list is small, my journal unlinked to fanish places, and I have a comment delete button and I'm not afraid to use it. XD

1. Well my thoughts on JE are reasonably complicated, but I've grown to love it, even if I find it easier to deal with if I think in terms of Fourteen.

2. My personal canon is that episode only happened the way it did because Rose and the Doctor were both poisoned by TEH STOOPID mushrooms shortly before exiting the TARDIS. This is the only way it makes sense.

3. I do kind of love Classic!Master for the sheer cheesiness! :D

4. NEEDS MORE DALEKS! ;-)

5. And the movie made me LOL SO MUCH, but I do rather like Eight. I've read a fair few Eight comics and those are awesome, and I've listened to a couple of audios!

1) Journey's End is a sucktastic bit of crack!fic.

No arguement here! I've already gone into detail on my own LJ about why I hated it so much. Honestly, I think the only part I really liked was when Wilf shot a paintball at the Dalek. Clever idea, Wilf...pity it didn't work!
2. Yep.
3. Well...I liked the original Master, particularly Delgado. I think he and Jon Pertwee were excellent opponents. Though I do truly like John Simm's version as well.
4. Also yep. There are many great Classic Who villains they could reuse, why keep bringing those two back?
5. Eight was cruelly underused. Paul McGann was lovely and lovable in the role, and played a Doctor that I really wanted to see more of. (First McGann, then Eccleston...why is it the Doctors I like best always have the short runs?!)

2. Well, I don't really like the episode, nor do I like the way the Doctor ignored Rose in favor of Madame de PompousWhore, but Rose understands that certain people are important to history, and it would be badly altered if MDP were killed. I think she's also much more secure in herself and her relationship with the Doctor than many fans realize.
